Vasquez MS opens and PHS auditorium is complete
The school board did not meet in July, so the update given at the meeting on August 18 was the first of the new school year. It revealed quite a bit of progress from the summer months.
At the ATLAS Career & Technical Education Center, the installation of structural steel is now complete. As electrical, plumbing and masonry continue, the roofing will begin soon. This new high school is set to open in August 2027.
Vasquez Middle School is now open - the first new middle school built in more than 40 years and the first one built outside of Loop 338. Work continues on the competition gym, auditorium, landscape, and other sitework (pictured, below).

The Permian High School Auditorium renovation is complete, the 8th project from Bond 2023 to be finished (pictured below).

The metal stud framing is ongoing at the Transition Learning Center. This is anticipated to be complete later in the fall semester.
The new JROTC building at Permian HS is nearing completion. Technology is being installed this week, furniture is being delivered the next two weeks, and a final inspection will be scheduled.
At the Ag Farm, the steel structure on both barns and academic buildings is done.
Preparations are being made for demolition of specific buildings on the site of the new Transportation Center. The Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the construction/renovation phase is on tonight’s agenda for approval.
Priority 1 and Priority 2 replacement/renovation projects are underway around the district. Roofing, Package 1, is done. There are 18 schools and the School Nutrition Department where projects have been completed this summer or are in progress.
Following the update, Trustees voted 5-0 to approve bond purchases over $100,000. This month, the two items on this list are job order contracting for general construction services for Priority 1 and Priority 2 issues, and job order contracting for electrical services for Priority 1 and Priority 2 electrical issues.
Trustees voted 5-0 to approve a Guaranteed Maximum Price amendment for construction and renovation of the new Transportation facility project. The amount of $16.8 million is for Phase II of this project, the construction and renovations.
Trustees voted 5-0Â to approve an amendment to the Professional Services Agreement with PBK related to the ATLAS CTE Center project.
